Listen!
In this fast-paced global economy where traditional boundaries are disappearing and where we suffer from an overload of information, taking time in silence to communicate with our inner voice, gives us a sense of calm and reassurance, courage and inspiration, perspective and purpose in life.
It was only my second week since arriving for the first time at Asia Plateau. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed jumping straight into a series of conferences. The spirit of the Centre combined with the intoxicating energy of the ongoing conferences, at that time ELL programmes for Symbiosis students, sedated my nerves but greatly fed my own spirit.
I realised the importance and beauty of communicating with myself, my inner self. The concept of quiet time and inner listening whilst not alien to me had never really ‘connected’ with me. However, this time after listening to the sessions on inner development I had made a connection.
In our world today, paper and computers have come before people, offices before homes and parties before prayer. This noise and chaos has filled up our inner space. Listening in silence to the inner voice creates the space for reflection. My mum often says to me, “Tehmina, God has given you two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as much as you speak.” Or then, to speak my language, she starts quoting Shakespeare, “ Listen or the sound of thy tongue will make thee deaf. ”
